All V8 Cams $168

All below mentioned cams are hydraulic.

SP 205 This is a great little cam designed especially for those with 455's in towing vehicles. Plenty of LOW END torque! Which is very important when pulling heavy loads at 2200 rpm or less. Nice smooth idle and gobs of vacuum.

SP BP Stage 1 Blueprint This Stage 1 enhanced cam produces excellent bottom end and midrange torque. Perfect for an otherwise completely stock 400-455. Will ad 23 peak horsepower over stock 455 cam at 4500 RPM and 10 peak horsepower over Stage 1 cam at 4000 RPM. All figures taken on an otherwise stock engine with headers. This cam works great in a big Buick with stock torque converter. Excellent street cam in the 400-455 Buick with 3.42 - 3.64 gears. Use with our Competition stock-type lifter, Hi-Rev or Hi-Vac lifters. Works fine with our Stage 1 Valve Springs, however the Competition and Intimidator Competition Valve Springs will work great also.

SP 1M Mild Street This profile resulted from the requests we had from those who wanted just a little more than the Blue Print gave, but didn't really want to go to a 2800 stall converter. So here we have a really great, Mild Street cam which gives plenty of vacuum for accessories, has a nice idle with some lope but nothing radical, and works great with 2.73 to 3.42 gears and around a 22-2400 stall converter. High compression of 10 is not necessary, but nice. Gives plenty of low end and midrange torque. Perfect for an otherwise completely stock 400-455, even with stock exhaust manifolds and intake! Will ad some 30+ peak horsepower over a stock 455 cam at 4600 RPM. All figures taken on an otherwise stock engine with headers. This cam works great in a big Buick with a mild torque converter. Use with our Competition stock-type lifter, Hi-Rev or Hi-Vac lifters. Works fine with our Stage 1 Valve Springs.

               OUR CAMS WORK!

                                                              WE GUARANTEE IT!

SP 1S Street/Strip This cam is specifically designed for the 80% street driven, 20% street or strip raced Buick 455 with 3.23 - 3.73 gears. It has quick ramps the Buick engine loves. Excellent throttle response. Look for a solid 25+ horsepower gain over the stock Stage 1 cam in a 455. At first, specifically designed for the serious "Street Set-up" using "stock iron intake and exhaust" through the complete exhaust system, we realized it also was an improvement on the original SP 1. It will even out-perform the SP 2, SP 235 and other big cams in an "Iron Engine", including the poor idle quality "Hemi-Killer" cam (You can make the "Hemi-Killer" cam have better idle characteristics by changing the lobe separation, but then you give up what performance it has. It can also out-perform the SP 1S, but only with over 13:1 compression). Without a doubt, the best profile available for "Stock Appearing", "Iron" engines. This is the one Greg Gessler keeps going back to. Nice idle with plenty of vacuum for power accessories. Has a nice "rumpty-rump" when engine is cold, but smoothes out to just a hint of a lope when warm. A real sleeper. Shift point with the 455 is 5000 - 5200 RPM. Works even greater with aftermarket intake and headers! The Stage 1 Valve Springs, or Intimidator Competition Valve Springs will work great. This is an excellent everyday street cam.

Greg won the Street Stock class this year in the Year One Event this past Fall with this cam.  The last of this Summer (2002), on regular street radials, he has just turned an 11.85 @114mph.

SP 235  Street Intimidator

Hey guys!  We have it!  An enhanced profile that is so sweet you’ll just have to have it.  It is positively the best Legitimate Street Cam available that does not require notched pistons or roller rockers.  Idles like the old SP 2, with plenty of “rumpity-rump”, plenty of vacuum for power accessories, and more horsepower and torque.  A dynamite profile resulting from our efforts to improve on the old popular SP 2X grind.  Needs 2800 - 3500 RPM stall torque converter, a minimum of 10.0:1 compression for best results, 3.42 - 3.90 gears, and of course an aftermarket intake, headers and our 3” Hi Flow mandrel bent exhaust is highly desirable.  Many are running low 12’s and high 11’s with the SP 235 and the proper  combination.  Typical runs are reaching into the 11.5’s to 11.9’s range.  Now remember, we are talking about street cars, not race cars.  These boys have enough vacuum for power accessories and can drive their cars everyday comfortably.  I just love this cam.  A great street cam with “rumpity rump”.

“ANOTHER INTIMIDATOR                   by Bob Carter

We just got back from the 3rd Buick Shootout at Bakersfield, CA.  My stock bodied ’70 GS Stage 1 ran 11.70’s at 112-113 MPH with a best of 1.605 60 ft. time.  This is with Torque Tech’s Intimidator SP 235 with Hi-Rev lifters.  This is no doubt the best “Street” cam to date.  I can’t stress enough that the “combination” does the job.  My car is not unique, but the combination works well.

Combination:

Engine:  455 .030” over forged pistons (no notches), 10:1 compression  Cam:  SP 235 w/Hi-Rev lifters with Brute double roller with cam set straight up as recommended by Torque Tech.

Misc:  Stock rods, polished beams, full grooved main bearings, Hi-Vol. Pump w/oil pressure adjuster set at 75 psi maximum.  Engine is balanced and I use Mobile 1 10w-30 oil.

Stage 1 Heads:  Ported and matched by myself.  Competition Cam valve springs, Stock rocker assembly w/HD shafts, 3/8” CM push rods, Fel Pro Head gaskets, and Torque Tech’s Chromemoly Head Bolts.

Intake:  Edelbrock B4B intake w/850 double pump Holley and 1” carb spacer, 82 Jets primary, 88’s rear; 6.5 rear power valve, .031” front shooter and .037” in the rear w/50cc pump.

Drive Train:  Torque Tech 10” Race Treemaster 3500 Stall Torque Converter, TH 400 shifting at 5700 RPM, 12 Bolt 3.73 w/TA Girdle and Eliminator Bars, Air Bags, and 10” x 28” slicks w/14 lb. air.

That’s it!  Nothing fancy, but it works well and has been very reliable and streetable.  If anyone would like more info on the car please call:

Bob Carter    (650) 363-8828    Redwood City, CA

UPDATE:  Since I originally wrote this article, I have lightened my car a little and worked with the suspension.  I have been able to run 11.50’s consistently with a best of 11.48.  I love this setup because it is very streetable and still an extremely strong runner.

SP 300M Street Intimidator

SP 300M Test

We've seen a best of 7.31 @ just under 93 mph in the 1/8th mile (approx. 11.40 ¼ mile). This on a cool night with lots of humidity. 3800 lb '72 GS. Others have seen 11.20's and 11.30's.

A strong cam developed as a result of our experience with the original JB 300 Erson grind I used back in the early to mid '80's. A very noticeable loping idle, but very streetable with a 3000-3500 RPM stall converter. Will idle at 800 RPM or lower. Needs 3.73 - 4.10 gears with 3.73's preferred. Best shift point is approximately 5700 RPM. Extremely strong between 4-6,000 RPM and has a tremendous flat torque curve in this range. Has quick ramps and likes headwork and compression. Notched pistons and our Intimidator Competition Valve Springs and "Sure fit" retainers or equivalent are needed. This cam is good for 8-10 HP or approximately .075 to .1 and as much as 1 mph over the SP 235 and will still give enough vacuum for power brakes and accessories.

This profile needs our 3" Hi Flow Exhaust. It is our Ultimate Street Intimidator (unless you want to consider the exciting SP 4!). Needs notched pistons, good valve springs and Roller rockers,,,, and preferably 10.5:1 or higher compression.

Its possible to see 11.30's or 11.40's with the proper combination and 3800 lb. vehicle.

SP 4 Street/Race Serious!? Our new profile gives up to 10 HP over the old original (243/266). Same excellent idle characteristics with improved vacuum. This cam loves compression and ported heads. Needs 3.73 to 4.10 gears and at least a 3500 RPM stall torque converter. Our old profile has quite a few full weight G.S.'s running 11.40's or quicker. This is a dynamite profile with an excellent idle for a cam of this size.

Needs notched pistons and our Intimidator Competition Valve Springs with Sure Fit Retainers or equivalent. Our quality Roller Rocker assembly or equivalent is a must. It will idle at 800 RPM which is often a requirement in many Muscle Car Events. Gives marginal vacuum for power brakes, but is a very streetable cam otherwise. Just ask Tim Haeffner who drives his car everyday with power brakes operating and runs consistent 11.20's and 11.30's on the weekends, along with Rob Chilenski with a best 10.82. Truly hard to beat. Low 11's are realistic expectations with the proper combination.

[Please don't confuse this with the cam Richard Lasseter (a/k/a Mark Smith, John Stevens, Wayne, answering service, security, etc. – yes, he answers by many names!) is selling. He was selling an imitation of our old 243/266 and is now selling something similar to our SP 4. He claims to do all his own dyno work and testing, but we wonder! --- In fact we really don't wonder either, because we know him and know he doesn't! ]

LIFTERS

HI-REV LIFTERS

Hi-Rev Lifter on left and Stock Lifters on the Right (same lifters others sell as their Competition Lifters). Top quality, flame hardened. These are the lifters we normally use in our cam tests and engines we build. I am using them myself. In other words, we use what we sell. Recommended use with all above cams. They give the little extra protection at higher RPM over Competition Lifters simply because they have a special high-strength, steel retainer in place of the normal spring clip. This more precisely limits the travel of the plunger during operation. Because of the RPM capability, our Hi-Rev (or sometimes referred to as anti pump-up) lifters are the best choice for all-around performance engines. They can help save damage to the valve train IF you should get into a "valve-float" situation. Push rod oiling applications only.                400-455, 350 '70 up (LIF455HR) ……… only $75

COMPETITION LIFTERS

Ideal for the stock rebuild and street/strip. These stock-type lifters are used in many strong engines successfully.

400-455 push rod oiling, 350 push rod oiling (LIF455C) ………. $ 65

400, 430, 350 non-pushrod oiling up to '69 (LIF430C) …. $ 85

SOLID LIFTERS

These lifters are to be used with the SP 7S and SP 8S Solid Lift cams or any other Buick solid lift cam. Push rod oiling.

400-455 push rod oiling/350 '70 up (LIF455S) ………….. $ 64

V8 TORQUE CONVERTERS

TORQUE TECH'S RACE TREEMASTER 10"

Most converters on the market are made with the high revving Chevy's in mind. Not this one! We've found this usually results in lost MPH with our lower RPM turning, high torque, engines. Quality, of course, is of prime importance, but also you do not want to be losing precious horsepower on the top end because of excessive slippage. Our converters are built with this in mind. It is important too, that you match your converter needs with your combination. For example, if you're using the SP 235 cam with 3.73 gears in the rear, then certainly you don't want to use the Stage 1 Converter simply because it has a stall of 2200 RPM and you need a stall of at least 2800 RPM.

These are GREAT torque converters! We start off with such a statement simply because its true. If you're serious about your GS performing to its ultimate, then you want the best, because its the best which helps make your car run to its maximum. These units are made for us by ATI with the durability of a Race Converter combined with the streetability of a Street/Strip Converter. They are the "Ultimate" as evidenced by the success everyone is having with it. They have a Race Sprag, full Torrington bearings, anti-balloon plate and full heliarched fins. Stall 3200 - 3800 RPM depending your combination. This is for the really Serious Street/Strip setup. Our Torque Tech units are used by many well known 11 and 12 second G.S. enthusiasts, especially those serious runners in Street Eliminator. We say "Our Version" because there is a difference. Some A.T.I. units actually flash stall less than 3200, not that there is anything wrong with this "if" its what your combination needs! Our versions can give a solid .2 to .3 seconds over a good switch pitch and sometimes more. We have done this many times in direct comparisons made by our customers and on our test vehicles.

No better quality anywhere. Very dependable and great performers! Very streetable also. We and many customers have actually driven hundreds of miles to events, etc. with this converter. As always with any aftermarket converter, it is recommended that you have a Tranny Cooler. This not only protects your converter, but your tranny also. We do not have ATI "cut any corners" to make these units for us. A necessity if you really want to be a serious competitor. These units are not "everyone gets the same". We have them made for the different basic combinations. We use different designed stators to achieve the desired "setup" for your combination. If you do not fall into one of these combinations, then you really don't need one of these units. You'll need either more converter or less. These aren't off-the-shelf units, but are made and matched to your individual combination. A very important feature. Please be prepared to give us your combination: cam, rear end ratio, vehicle weight, compression. 1 year warranty. Shipped UPS. Use with the TH 400 or 350. We can now offer these units at this special price because of our volume buying and good working relationship with ATI. Each unit comes with new torque converter bolts. If you want your GS to perform to its ultimate and you have a combination which will benefit, then order one now! Its a high price, BUT it is worth it.

TORQUE TECH'S STREETMASTER 11"

A medium 2800 RPM stall, quality converter. Has Torrington bearings: one on each side of the stator and one under the turbine to eliminate thrust problems. New factory mounting pads for "trueness" in bolting up to the flexplate perpendicularly. An ideal street or street/strip torque converter. Works nicely with most any street gear. This unit gives excellent streetability along with the necessary flash-stall characteristics for strip action. A great torque converter for the 13 and 12 second performers. Very durable and streetable. 1 year warranty. Shipped UPS.

VALVES

STAGE 1 STAINLESS STEEL VALVES

Complete set of Quality swirl polished, one-piece valves. We highly recommend the one-piece valve on the 400-455's running quicker than 12.50's. One-piece valves are stronger and better able to withstand the stress of strong running powerplants with an abundance of torque and horsepower.

PISTONS

STRIP/STREET FORGED PISTONS

Recommended for all applications. With good quality fuel becoming harder to find, it is becoming more important to rebuild with quality pistons which can withstand the increased detonation which occurs. This is a major reason for our not recommending cast pistons. You may save a few dollars now, but you'll pay later. Made by Speed Pro. Pins included. (Speed Pro/Sealed Power does not make a 10.25:1 compression piston for the 455, although with the use of steel shim head gaskets and the Stage 1 valves gives an effective 10.25:1. C.R.)

FEDERAL MOGUL HYPEREUTECTIC PISTONS

Hypereutectic (pronounced hyper-you-tectic) refers to a special casting technique which disperses particles of silicon throughout the aluminum in a more compact arrangement than in standard forged pistons. This allows for closer piston to cylinder wall clearance. These new version pistons weigh slightly more

than the equivalent forged pistons. They work nicely with any stock or mild performance buildup. Both 455 & 350 pistons come with notches for higher lift cams and 8 stock pistons. They both use standard moly or file fit rings and are available in Std. Or .030".

RINGS

PLASMA MOLY -- FILE FIT Plasma Moly Compression Ring Sets

These are the choice for the serious engine. These rings are known for extra durability and sealing characteristics. The faces of these top rings are filled with the latest generation Plasma Moly. Improved bond strength of this plasma-applied coating provides resistance to flaking. The controlled porosity of the coating results in improved top ring lubrication. Due to the

high melting point of moly, this ring set offers maximum insurance against scuffing. Extra strength for the serious street/strip set-up with high compression. Top two rings are 5/64" while the bottom stainless steel oil control ring is 3/64". Made by Speed Pro.

Ring Thickness

All Buick pistons, rather they be cast, forged or hypereutectic, use the 5/64" rings. 1/16" rings are usually used with special made aftermarket pistons. They are mainly intended for race applications where every effort is being made to minimize friction. Generally, 1/16" rings are not recommended for street applications.

Recommended for Street/Strip and Race engines using the Speed Pro forged pistons, our JE Lightweights, or the Federal Mogul Hypereutectic Pistons. Available in Std. +.005", .035", and .043" (for .038" over pistons. Please specify size. (We also have the 1/16" ring sets available - same price)

FUEL PUMPS

455 STAGE 1 AC/DELCO -- This quality mechanical pump is usually more than adequate for most street/strip 455's.
